Overstrand Municipality’s First Back-Up Generators arrived

Overstrand Municipality received an amount of R6.7 million from the Western Cape Government’s Emergency Municipal Load-shedding Relief Grant for the procurement and installation of additional back-up generators at critical water and wastewater facilities, to mitigate the impact of load shedding on the provision of these basic services.

Despite the current high demand for generators in the country due to the continued load shedding, resulting in long lead times for generators, the first four units for the Overstrand were delivered during the week of 26 June 2023.

These generators will be installed at the Mossel River and Kleinmond Tennis Courts Sewerage Pumpstations, at the Kleinmond Water Treatment Plant, and at the Klipgat Spring at De Kelders.

The remaining five generators are expected to be delivered during July 2023 and will be installed at the Gansbaai Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Pearly Beach and De Kelders Water Treatment Works, the Palmiet River Raw water pumpstation at Kleinmond, as well as a 400 kVA generator for Kraaibosch Dam Bulk Raw Water Pumpstation.

The project should be completed by 31 August 2023.
